You can see why it is preferable to view the canals either in autumn or in spring ; in summer the trees tend to screen off the view of the houses.
These were some she took in the Rijksmuseum :
These she took in the Willet Holthuysen museum:
(that gigantic fireplace was reproduced in miniature by Sue Cook , I think, but I cannot find it on her website now)
And now for the update : my Accursed Aubusson! It is still slow going , as I cannot really stitch for long periods of time , but there is SOME progress....
Beautiful pictures
ReplyDeleteThank you Simon!
DeleteElly, did you notice that the Aubusson in the HoltHuysen museum is very similar to the one you are stitching??
ReplyDeleteYep, it looks very much an Aubusson, doesn't it ? :-) I also like it that the color scheme is the same as in mine.

ReplyDeleteOoh what inspirational photos, I love that marble-top console table. And your aubusson is divine, you are so brave to wrestle with it with only one good arm, hope yours mends soon. A friend recently fell while walking in the bush and broke both her wrists which are now in plaster, poor thing. I have sympathy pains with you both, ouch!
ReplyDeleteThank you Margaret! Well, I should have listened to my mom who always told me to watch where I am going and to lift my feet... Sound advice, really. The house is a great inspiration for miniaturists. Josje recently showed wonderful pictures of her visit to another canal house, the Geelvinck Hinlopen house.
DeleteThank you for sharing these beautiful pictures!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome Beatrice! Time for a visit to Amsterdam?

ReplyDeleteGlad you had a bit of fun with Anne, that house looks wonderful, I would love to see it on my next visit. Give the furbabies a hug from me. And I really hope your arm is done healing soon, I think after three months I would have driven my family mad by now if such an accident would ever befall me, I can just imagine how you must feel by this time.
ReplyDeleteMy patience looks vey much like an old mat by now... definitely holes in it! ;-) . Hope to know more day after tomorrow.
DeleteHello Elly,
ReplyDeleteWhat wonderful pictures. Thank you for sharing them with us! So much inspiration and ideas!
Big hug,
Giac
Hi Giac , how wonderful to see you. Hope you and your family are doing OK and you will soon be able to get back into minis .
ReplyDeleteHi Elly! I hope that your arm is healing steadily although I know it has been slow going for you and frustrating at times, especially when you are itching to make more progress on the Aubusson, but the carpet to date, is So Beautiful so keep going. Your labour is not in vain even if you do feel the handicap.

Stunning miniature settings and it's good to see a cat in front of the fire too. The porcelain is also stunning - simply beautiful. And the view of the canal is just lovely - what a great place to live!
